Roof repair and replacement can be a very expensive and daunting proposition. Hiring a roof contractor is like finding a good auto mechanic—identifying someone you trust to perform an important service you know little about and for which you cannot see the work or evaluate its quality. Recognizing this challenge, below is a list of items the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) recommends to help business owners make informed decisions about choosing a dependable roof contractor with a track record for ethical business practices and quality work.
Growing up I wanted to be a race car driver, a pilot or a firefighter. I don’t recall wanting to be a contractor, but what I do remember is wanting to be like my entrepreneurial father. I wanted to be successful like him and emulate his business talents, so I jumped at the chance to join him in 1985 when he created Rainbow Roofing. From its start, Rainbow Roofing quickly grew and gained customers’ trust. As a small family business our outstanding reputation was created by hard work, honesty and building customer relationships.
The water repelled by the roof during a rainstorm is potentially damaging to the building that the roof protects. If it runs down the walls, it may seep into the mortar or through panels. If it lies around the foundations it may cause seepage to the interior, rising damp or dry rot. For this reason most buildings have a system in place to protect the walls of a building from most of the roof water. Overhanging eaves are commonly employed for this purpose. Most modern roofs and many old ones have systems of valleys, gutters, waterspouts, waterheads and drainpipes to remove the water from the vicinity of the building. In many parts of the world, roofwater is collected and stored for domestic use.

Bathroom vents can also cause leaking when it is not sealed properly. The vent cover should be installed properly to prevent the pipe from letting water into the ventilation of the bathroom. Though bathrooms are often wet, roof leaks should still be prevented since dry bathrooms can suffer from water damage.

For jobs that involve shingle, tile and metal roofing, roofers usually have to remove the existing materials before laying down a layer of fresh tar paper and installing new materials using either staples or nails. Often, roofers have to replace wood on the roof that is damaged due to weather exposure and rot. Plywood and cheaper-quality wood-made roofs undergo similar issues and need to be replaced from time to time.
“Ask them to provide a copy of their state roofing license (if required in your area) and insurance certificate,” Diederich says. You can also use the Angie’s List License Check tool to verify licensing or call the roofer’s insurance company to make sure they have coverage.”
The water may not only leak into the attic but can flow straight into the ceiling and drip on the room where the sun tunnel leads. This can spell trouble to the homeowner, especially if the flooring is made from wood or carpet, which can be easily damaged by water. Repair on the sun tunnel is immediately needed to prevent this from happening.
Deicing cable installation can help minimize or prevent water leakage in the roof since snow and ice can be easily melted and there is no chance for the ice or snow to get stuck on the shingles and roof corners.
To spot a roof leak, look for water spots on your ceiling. Inspect your attic during a rain storm to see if water is getting in. After a storm, check for missing shingles, damaged flashing or any other compromised roof components.

My review really just echoes what everyone else says. Bryan is very reliable, competitively priced and a super nice guy. We also asked for references and were given a huge stack that we picked from at random and everyone we spoke to was very happy with the service they received – and so were we. We’ve used him 3 times now and he is great.
